Childhood and early life


 Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was born on 23 March 1910 in Akbarpur, Uttar Pradesh. His mother was an excellent teacher. There was a big event in his life in childhood, that was the death of his mother.

His father was a true patriot. He had won everyone's heart with his dedication and loyalty to the country. When Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia was young, he started participating in many rallies of India's independence.

It is believed that when the new turning point of his life came, he went to meet Gandhiji with his father. His father was a follower of Gandhiji.

When Ram Manohar Lohia met Gandhi, he was impressed by his character. Very attracted by his thinking and he supported the ideals of Gandhiji.

He enrolled in Intermediate after passing his matriculation examination in first class. The name of where he took admission was Banaras Hindu University.

1929 - Completed studies at the University of Calcutta.

His intelligence was so strong that he learned German very quickly and most importantly he received financial support for his excellent academic performance.

 The Ideology of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia


  Ram Manohar Lohia always preferred Hindi over English. He believed that English creates a distance between educated and uneducated people, which is not right at all.

He believed that the feeling of unity increases with Hindi, which builds the nation. He was totally against the ideology of caste.

Upper class and low caste people have to live together!

Similarly, in his 'United Socialist Party', he gave tickets to the lower caste candidates for the elections for high positions and also encouraged them!

He also laid more emphasis on establishing better government schools, so that good education is available to all and good opportunities are provided.

  • During the Quit India Movement, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia along with Usha Mehta had started the secret radio movement.
  • According to university rules, Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia chose Dr. Berner Gembert, a proficient economist, as a professor in Berlin.
  • Dr Ram Manohar Lohia questioned Jawaharlal Nehru on the expenditure of 25 thousand a day.
  • Due to the tireless efforts of Ram Manohar Lohia, the Congress party's stature was reduced in the year 1967 and in the elections, he had to face a crushing defeat in many states.
  • The principles were different from the ideology of Jawaharlal Nehru.


     Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia protested against the hanging of Indian revolutionary Shaheed Bhagat Singh and his companions by playing the city from the audience gallery in the meeting of the League of Nations being held in Berlin.
