1-Bhotia


*The border parts of Tibet and Nepal in the state are called Bhot Pradesh. The people living in the Bhot region are called Bhotias.
 
*The people of Bhotia tribe are spread in the areas of Almora, Chamoli, Pithoragarh and Uttarkashi.
 
*The Bhotia people are the descendants of the Mongol race.
 
*The Bhotia people speak dialects belonging to the Tibetan Burman family of the Himalayas.
 
*The Bhotia youth wear pajamas, a mountain cap in a coat and the young woman wears a high-armed coat called chung.
 
*Women wear kurta from the waist down which is called Fuya Bel. Coral beads are the main ornament of Bhotia women.
 
*Bhotia people worship the deities Bag, Gawla, Ragchim.
 
*The practice of kidnapping marriage is prevalent in the Bhotia tribe.
 
*These people entertain by playing hudke instruments. They earn their livelihood through agriculture and animal husbandry.


2-Jaunsari


 Jaunsari is the largest tribal community of Uttarakhand.

Jaunsari tribe lives on the hills of Tehri Garhwal district.

The people of Jaunsari tribe consider the Pandavas as their ancestors.    

Jaunsari people worship Mahasu Devta.

Polyandry system is prevalent among these people and mass inter-caste marriage is also prevalent.

Jaunsari women are skilled in doing agricultural work. Through this, these people feed their stomach.

Men wear pajamas, kurtas and women wear knee-length kurtas and ghagras.

In this time of modernity, the trend of Pant-coat and Saree blouse increased.


3-Raji

  • The Raji tribe is also called Vanrat.
  • These tribes live in Dharchula of Pithoragarh and Chiplathara of Didihat, Ganagaon, Kimkhola, Chaurani, Jamtadi etc.
  • Raji people usually live in the forest
  • Its main deity is Baghanatha.
  • These people speak Munda and Kumaoni languages.


4- Tharu- 

  • Tharu tribe considers itself as Rajput from maternal side and Bhil origin from paternal side.
  • They are called Tharu due to coming from Thar region of Rajasthan and settling here and consuming more alcohol.
  • It resides in Udham Singh Nagar district.
  • Tharu people earn their living by doing agriculture.
  • Men wear tunic and women wear colorful lehenga, choli and odhani.


5-Buxa or Bhuxa

  • Buxa people reside in Bajpur, Gadarpur, Ramnagar, Dugadda, Doiwala, Vikas Nagar, Sahaspur development blocks of Dehradun district located in Terai Bhabar.
  • Its main language is Hindi.
  • Widow marriage, gharjawai and polygamy are prevalent in Buxa society.
  •  Buxa people worship Lord Durga, Mahadev, Kali, Lakshmi, Rama and Krishna.
  • Livelihood- Paddy, maize, gram, wheat cultivation and animal husbandry.


6-Shouka

  • The Shoka tribe lives in the eastern part of Pithoragarh of Kumaon division. 
  • To earn a living, these people do business of agriculture, herbs and woolen clothes.
