International Yoga Day 2024: Promoting a Healthy Lifestyle

A sedentary lifestyle can have detrimental effects on our bodies and overall well-being. The prevalence of desk jobs and the work-from-home culture have led to increased periods of sitting and reduced physical activity. This sedentary lifestyle has resulted in various health issues.

Yoga Master Akshar, Founder of Akshar Yoga Institutions, emphasizes the importance of yoga for individuals with desk jobs or those who spend most of their day in front of a computer. He suggests that incorporating yoga into our daily routines can help prevent long-term health issues and strengthen our bodies. In addition to promoting immunity, yoga enhances flexibility, strength, and endurance.

To counter the negative impact of a sedentary lifestyle, Yoga Master Akshar recommends a range of yoga asanas:

Santholanasana: This asana focuses on strengthening the thighs, arms, and shoulders while developing core strength.

Chaturanga Dandasana: Regular practice of this asana enhances muscle flexibility and prepares the body for more advanced poses.

Vashishtasana: By stretching the arms, shoulders, chest, abdomen, back of the legs, calves, and ankles, this asana provides both strengthening and lengthening benefits.

Chakrasana: Also known as the wheel pose, it opens the heart and chest while stimulating the adrenal glands.

Pashimottanasana: The Seated Forward Bend improves spine mobility and overall flexibility.

Yoga Master Akshar emphasizes that yoga helps combat the sedentary lifestyle by keeping the body active, fit, and flexible. Muscle rigidity can lead to complications such as joint deterioration, inflammation, and conditions like arthritis.

By incorporating yoga into our daily routines, we can counteract the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, promote physical activity, and improve overall well-being.
